Provincetown Commons and the Community Development Partnership are pleased to announce the 2025 Creative Development Series. Over the course of ten weeks, the two organizations will offer six free courses to individuals seeking to enhance the business side of their creative practice. This year, the workshops directly stem from the results of a community survey that asked what needs folks want to focus on now. The classes will all have a “learn, then do” component to them. Participants will hear from artists and creative workers, and each session will have time devoted to students practicing the work themselves. All courses are free; registration is recommended.
The third session "Photographing and Archiving Your Work" - Seth Abrahamson and Madeleine Larson will teach participants the ins and outs of proper archival storage for their artwork, as well as tips for cataloging and storage within small spaces. Participants will learn to use a basic set up (tripod, lighting, backdrop) to photograph their work (it’s recommended to use your own camera on your smartphone). The Commons will keep a photography station set up for the month of March, and artists can schedule time to bring in their artwork to photograph it.
Seth R. Abrahamson earned his BFA in Graphic Design and Art History from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and is currently an MFA thesis candidate in the Dynamic Media Institute program at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. As the Registrar/Preparator at the Provincetown Art Association and museum for seven years, he oversaw the induction of some 1,000-plus works into the permanent collection and installed well over 100 exhibitions. Seth has also worked for private clients providing artwork cataloging services.
Madeleine Larson is the Collections Manager at Provincetown Art Association and Museum. She graduated from Barnard College with a BA in Art History and Economics, and from the George Washington University with a MA in Museum Studies with a concentration in Collections Management. She has worked in museum collections at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, the Thornton Burgess Society in Sandwich, and the Avenir Conservation Lab at the GWU Textile Museum, cleaning and rehousing textiles. At PAAM, she manages a collection of over 5,000 art objects and coordinates 30 annual exhibitions, as well as operates an annual fundraising art auction at the museum. This past year, she has also begun a full-scale digitization and inventory project for PAAM's entire artwork collection. Before becoming the Collections Manager at PAAM, Madeleine was hired in 2021 to catalogue the Edward and Josephine Hopper Archive of letters, photographs, and other ephemera. Outside of her PAAM work, she has experience in artwork framing, packing, moving, and installation.
