NIMBY sentiments often focus on density concerns when people are actually concerned about design. Form-based code is a tool to support towns in shifting toward a regulatory environment (town meeting) that emphasizes the design and form of a development more than its use (for example, who will live there, how many people/units, etc.)
This advanced training will go over the basic principles of form-based code and why it's a useful tool for supporting housing production. We will look at implementation options and things to consider in order to articulate your community’s vision. Finally, we will see examples of rural and suburban form-based codes to offer a glimpse of best practices and Cape Cod applications.
