Historically, there has been tension between housing and open space, but it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, smart & intentional zoning should support, rather than conflict with, our region’s ability to preserve and protect this beautiful place that we call home. This advanced training will focus on successful examples of Open Space Residential Development (OSRD) for multifamily. We’ll also discuss zoning options that allow for compact housing and inclusive neighborhoods (including a brief overview of Chapter 40B).
We will review zoning basics and fair housing. We will discuss Chapter 40B and strategies for successful public hearings. We'll look at examples of zoning for compact housing. We'll also talk about ways to develop and streghthen zoning incentives to encourage redevelopment of existing properties.
